1. NATURE

Check these and more places in Cali with my interactive Google Map!

Less than 1 hour away from anywhere you may be in Cali, you can find yourself immersed in exhuberant nature with pristine waterfalls, colorful birds, thick forests and high mountain peaks. This is my curated list:

PANCE RIVER: did you know Cali is crossed by 7 different rivers? There's plenty to choose from and the local favorite is Pance, with chilly water straight from the mountains clean as good to drink, perfect to combat Cali's heat. My 2 favorite places in the river are:

- Eco health park Pance river: if you have never been here, you are not from Cali. Hey, now you know about it! Free entry public park, 4 different guarded entrances, 60 hectares of area, a 4km trail for walking and jogging, super family friendly, food options inside and even lodging. The river is shallow. If you like nature, water and outdoors, this is a must visit. Google maps link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/dzmABVG1Wr4Wcawc9

- Chorrera del Indio: higher up away from the public park, private business with a mighty 35 meter tall waterfall, a natural river water swimming pool and even a secondary more secluded waterfall. Entry fee is $15.000 pesos. Google maps link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/obbkCyga3NQwDBUW9

HUMMINGBIRDS AND BIRDWATCHING: did you know Colombia has 20% of the bird species of the world with only 0.8% land mass? And Cali specifically, groups 30% of all the bird species you can see in Colombia. My recommendation: Finca Alejandría, farmhouse up in the west cloudforest of Cali, more than 30 hummingbird species flying freely around you, and up to 359 different bird species! The owner of this place single-handedly has improved the water of one of Cali's rivers. Entry fee is $60.000 pesos. Google maps link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/F4ezt2xoyjd9Da7Q8

2. SALSA

Check these and more places in Cali with my interactive Google Map!

"I once went to Cuba looking for what I found in Cali" told me once a tourist. It can be 9am or 9pm, a Monday or a Friday, the club, a taxi or a supermarket that in Cali... you will find salsa. Any day, anytime. Not for nothing we're known as the salsa capital of the world. Now, where can you enjoy it in Cali?

LA TOPA TOLONDRA: every hostel's top 1 recommendation for enjoying salsa in Cali. A club that is open pretty much everyday. Plus: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays you have group salsa classes from 7pm to 9pm, $10.000 pesos and you're in. Great to blend in the crowd and learn without having attention on you. After the class, stay for practicing and social dancing, no extra cost. Google Maps link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/dfZ1tdetRheuE6g18

Other clubs to enjoy salsa in Cali are:

PUNTO BARÉ: literally next to La Topa. Live music on Wednesdays and Fridays! Google Maps link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/PhCrgPs1y3KMGzoD9

LA CALDERA DEL DIABLO: small, cozy, and filled with locals. Google Maps link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Xp4VV8Wnnqr3AWGRA
